What's-on-my-Bookshelf Wednesday - and a sort-of Giveaway

Or, rather, what's NOT on my bookshelf, because the shelves are rather full.

A whole pile of books I have read (mostly) very recently. I decided I was going to read more books this year, and this has been going well, though I have hit a bit of a wall in the last couple of weeks with this one...

('Over-use of pronouns' is what I'd probably write on this if it had been handed to me for marking.  I guess I'm just not clever enough to keep track of what each 'he', 'him', 'his' is referring to!)

Easier reads for me have been the following:

This was a real page-turner for me, though I did manage to guess  what was going on quite quickly.  The ending was a bit disappointing!

I did enjoy this at the time, but I think I'd be better sticking to Jane Austen  when I want to immerse myself in a Regency atmosphere.

Sad and sweet.  Chosen for the front cover, it didn't disappoint me.

Loved this!  It made me laugh lots.  Completely preposterous, much of it, but all the better for it!

Read ages ago (probably this time last year)  Another sweet story - can't remember too much about it now, but I do remember being sad when I finished it.

Another one I loved!

Tissues ready!

Anyway, the thing is, my shelves are groaning so I thought maybe some blog readers might be interested in a free book.  I would happily pop a book in the post to any reader who would like one of the above title (not 'Wolf Hall'  - I must persevere with that!)  Just leave a comment below saying which one you'd like.  If more than one person requests a particular book, I will get the mice to perform the old 'names in the hat' routine!

Added later:  I didn't quite think this through before hitting publish and going out for the evening, so forgot to say I'll leave this open till Sunday evening (that's the 17th I think!) and I should have probably said UK based, but as I didn't, if any of the current first ten comments is abroad, I will, of course, include them!

  6. Very kind of you Alix! I'd like to try the Harold Fry one please, and when I've finished it, I'll re-advertise it on my blog. I have done a book pass around before and it's interesting to see where it's been. I'll put a card inside saying where it's been before I send it off. If someone else wants that one, my second choice is The Fault in our Stars.

    Thanks again!

  7. Hi Alix
After reading on Amazon about this book, I would love to give it a try.
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.
    Lets hope I'm lucky.
I had a kindle given to me for christmas but I just can't get on with it,I like to hold a book in my hand. I'll have to tell a few porkies to my eldest son who bought it for me if he asks how I'm getting on with it,I don't want to hurt his feelings.

  8. It's funny you should say that about Wolf Hall, I'm grinding my way through that too right now! I thought it must be me, after all the 'best book EVER' type comments on the front and back! I'm really struggling with it. I'm so glad I'm not alone.

Thank you for your book offer, I'd love any book you might choose to send me :) They all look interesting.

I'm also glad I'm not the only one to buy a book because I like the cover (I thought I was being very shallow!).

  9. I was just on the point of going to get a pen to write down some of those titles when I read the end of your post.

I would be happy to have any of them, except "Gone Girl", sitting on my bookshelf.

  15. Aaaargh, comment disappeared!
I'm sure your books will all find good homes but wanted to say "thank you" for revealing "Girl Gone" doesn't have a good ending as I had been thinking of buying it and I find poor endings just so disappointing, you feel like you have wasted hours of your life.
I've just read Debbie Macomber's "the shop on Blossom Street" and also "The Vintage Teacup Club", both pleasant enough but not wonderful.
    Have a good weekend.
